Glass used for bottles is a double silicate of sodium and calcium.
It is mainly composed of sand, soda, limestone and dolomite along with several metallic oxides.
A remarkable property of glass is its full recyclability. Once cleaned from impurities, glass waste (cullet) is added to other raw-materials for a new melting and production of new glass.
Typical composition of packaging glass:
Silica (SiO) + Soda(Na2O) + Calcium(CaO) + Magnesium(MgO) + Aluminia(Al2O3)
